John T. Ludes was elected President and Chief Operating Officer of American Brands, Inc. (Fortune Brands, Inc.), a leading consumer brands company with over $13.2 billion in revenues and $1.3 billion in operating income. Mr. Ludes was also a member of the company's Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
Prior to being elected President and COO, Ludes served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Acushnet Company (revenues $800 million, operating income $125 million). He also served as Group Vice President of American Brands, Inc., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Brands International Corporation, and Chairman of Titleist and Foot-Joy Worldwide.
Mr. Ludes served as a member of American Brands' Board of Directors from 1987 to 1990 and was Vice Chairman of Master Brand Industries (the company's hardware and home improvement group) from 1988 to 1989.
In 1984, Mr. Ludes formed the American Brands International Corporation and acted as Vice President-International-Pacific Basin from January 1985 to January 1987. He went on to become its President and Chief Executive Officer from January 1988 to March 1990, then Chairman from March 1990 to December 1995.
Mr. Ludes joined Acushnet Company in 1978 as Vice President of Marketing of Titleist Golf Division. He became Vice President and General Manager of the division in 1979. In January 1981, Mr. Ludes was appointed Executive Vice President of Acushnet and General Manager of Titleist Golf Division. He was then elected President and Chief Executive Officer of Acushnet Company (consisting of Titleist, Foot-Joy and Acushnet Rubber Company).
Prior to joining Acushnet, Mr. Ludes was Director of Consumer Products for Polaroid Corp. and worked in several divisions including international, premium business, military, and North American consumer products.
John T. Ludes graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. and M.S. in Marketing and Management. Mr. Ludes currently serves as Director of the New England Zenith Fund in Boston.
